Gautham, Kamal & Atul - towards Gen IT
Well, the bug seems to be catching on. Film makers are definitely discovering a growing fascination within themselves for the life of the IT/call center generation- the odd hours, fat pay packets, their problems at work, with health and family - in general, the troubles of young men and women struggling to be in one place and live life at the pace of a city
millions of miles away. May be the information age life has a few more positives than are generally talked about, but the grey areas are undeniable and prominent with their presence.
Three different film industries have films under production that deal with aspects of youth in the fast lane of information technology. The first is from Bollywood, based on a cult novel by Chetan Bhagath , One Night @ Call Center. Many of you might have read this hugely successful book and the prospect of a movie does seem exciting.
Titled Hello and directed by actor turned producer Atul Agnihotri, the movie will have Sharman Joshi and Isha Koppikar playing the lead characters. Salman Khan makes a special appearance.
The second, (this you have certainly heard of) is Gautham Menon’s Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikkalam starring Trisha with a host of newcomers. Currently paused for the completion of Vaaranum Aayiram, this movie will provide an insight into the life of the IT culture.
.
Finally, to Kerala, where veteran director Kamal has just launched a project that will again be based on the lives of people in the software/IT fields. The movie will star the prominent young guns of Malayalam cinema including Jayasuriya.
