Rajinikanth’s stylish new look
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008Veerappan’s wife to play herself?
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008
As reported a couple of days ago, Ram Gopal Varma is keen on making a film on Veerappan, the notorious sandalwood smuggler who successfully evaded arrest for decades.
The life and times of the forest brigand could very easily make an absorbing tale on the silver screen. Brutal attacks on police personnel and hoodwinking two state governments Tamilnadu and Karnataka using the dense forests of the Sathyamangalam forests as cover caught national attention for many years.
Muthulakshmi, wife of the slain bandit had recently been to Mumbai for discussions with RGV’s team. Terming the filmmaker as ‘very professional and trustworthy’ Muthulakshmi said, she would be the film’s consultant throughout the entire production process.
Says Muthulakshmi, “I have been offered to act as myself in the film. I am considering this offer and might act if there are no marriage scenes in the film’.
She doesn’t want some actor who plays Veerappan to tie the knot even though it is just for a film.
With RGV’s penchant in making gangster movies, the film on the life and times of Veerappan could get mighty engrossing. However the movie will be directed by Prashant Pandey (writer for Sarkar Raj) and will be produced by RGV and Ekta Kapoor.

‘Kuselan’ to release on July 25
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008|
Finally the word is out. It’s official and confirmed. Rajinikanth’s much-awaited Kuselan, a remake of Malayalam hit Katha Parayumbol, will hit the screens on 25 July. Addressing media persons in Chennai on Wednesday, director P Vasu said, ‘the shooting is complete and dubbing is going on right now. Re-recording will commence from Monday’. The story is about two childhood friends who go different ways in their life as they grow up into adulthood. One ends up a poor barber struggling to make both ends meet and the other as a ’superstar’ in the movies. What happens when the two meet after all those years holds the crux, he said. Pasupathy plays the poor barber and needless to say Rajini plays the superstar. Prabhu, Nayantara, Meena, Sneha, Kushboo and Vadivelu are also in the cast. Produced jointly by K Balachander’s Kavithalaya Films and M P Vijayakumar’s Seven Arts Films, Kuselan has cinematography by Aravindh Krishna and musical score by G V Prakash. According to Vasu, ‘the audio rights of Kuselan have been lapped up by Big Music for Rs 2.25 crore, while Pyramid Saimira has acquired the movie’s distribution rights for a huge sum.’ Plans are on to release the audio of Kuselan on 30 June. A grand function will be held in Chennai in which popular South Indian directors would take part. The movie was shot in Hyderabad Ramoji Rao Film Studio, exotic locales of Pollachi, Udumalpet and interior parts of Kerala. Adds Vasu, ‘ Rajinikanth’s contribution to the movie is immense. He was very co-operative. We managed to complete the shooting of both Kuselan and Kathanayukudu in Telugu in just 82 days. Jagapathy Babu enacts the role played by Pasupathy in Tamil. Brahmanandam and Sunil are also in the cast in Telugu version’. ‘G V Prakash’s music is a major highlight of the movie. The 22-year-old boy has come up with stunning music and Rajinikanth himself appreciated him. So is Aravindh Krishna’s cinematography’. Vasu says, ‘the movie has been completed so early thanks to my producers Kavithalaya and Seven Arts Vijayakumar.’ Plans are on to shoot a song commemorating the 75th year of Tamil cinema with Kuselan and popular actors including Vijay, Ajith and Vikram might appear in it. Valee has penned the lyrics’. Get ready to be dazzled by ‘Kuselan’ this July, asserts a happy Vasu. Watch ‘Kuselan’ Press Meet Watch ‘Kuselan’ Movie Launch

After ‘Sarkar Raj’, it is Veerappan
Monday, June 16th, 2008
Talk about a huge mustache, military green uniform and a rifle strapped by the shoulder and just about anyone would say Veerappan. The man who was initiated to sandalwood smuggling and the ivory trade at a very early age became a specialist at escaping from the clutches of the police and at times killing them too. The dark, gaudy life and times of Veerappan can make an engrossing story on film and Ram Gopal Varma is thirsting to do just that. Grapevine has it that even when the forest brigand was alive, RGV wanted to start the project so much so that when ‘Jungle’ was released everyone thought it would be about Veerappan. With the mighty success of the Hindi film ‘Sarkar Raj’ featuring the three Bachchans – Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya, RGV has created a name for himself big time, and movie audiences all over the nation look forward to his films. Probably the right time to bring Veerappan on to the silver screen. The forest brigand’s wife Muthulakshmi came over to Mumbai for discussion and this is a clear indication that the project will start rolling soon. RGV has created a name for himself as a specialist at gangster movies. This factor would be a huge bonus for the film. According to reports, the film maker will co produce the film along with Ekta Kapoor and the writer of ‘Sarkar Raj’ Prashant Pandey will be the director. |
