Karthiga, the half-saree girl

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Western attire seems to be a far-flung desire for young actress Karthiga. All the filmmakers who approach her for roles offer her characters that need to dress up either in half sarees or the South Indian traditional skirt worn by young girls.

‘Right from my debut film ‘Thoothukudi’ and till now, all the characters I play need me to dress up in half sarees. But I am not upset with it’, says Karthiga.

Karthiga is currently playing one of five heroines for the film ‘Raman Thediya Seethai’. She is the heroine for a film titled ‘Vaidehi’ that features Pandiarajan’s son Prithivi as hero. The film was earlier titled ‘Machaan’.

She would also be seen as a village belle in the film ‘Alaiyodu Villayadu’

Offers keep pouring in and with every offer comes the half-saree too.

Bees sting Shaam

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Shaam was introduced as a ‘chocolate hero’ in the film ‘12B’ directed by the late Jeeva and continued to don similar roles without much success. He has now worked hard to change his image as an action hero and is being roped in for a number of movies like ‘Anthony-yaar’, ‘Sivamayam’ and ‘Agam Puram’.

This macho makeover had prompted some bees to fight him in order to see if he is strong enough…. (Just kidding)

Shaam stays in an apartment near Loyola College and a bee hive had been on a tree for quite some time. Neighborhood pigeons decided to feast on some honey and disturbed the peace and tranquility of the hive.

Unaware of all this Shaam, who was watching TV at the time was stung severely especially on the face. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

It is not clear if there were any other bee-sting victims.

Perarasu to direct Arjun

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Director Perarasu who shot to fame with back-to-back successful films with Vijay is currently churning out a film with Arjun in the lead. The film has been titled ‘Thiruvannamalai’ (the director always christens his films with the names of places) and introduces debutante Sania as heroine.

Perarasu has been quite successful in tickling the sentimental-bone of the masses with emotionally charged up sequences that involve wronged and helpless women.

Probably in a bid to avoid being stereotyped, the director says, ‘there are no sentimental scenes in the movie. It is an out and out commercial venture, but quite different’.

The story has Arjun playing a local television cable operator who has a troubled relationship with politicians. The narration delves deep in to the intricate animosity with corrupt politicians and follows the hero’s struggling path to victory.

Popular Kannada actor Saikumar plays the villain and Karunaas and Vaiyapuri are expected to keep the audiences in good cheer.

Srikanth Deva is composing music and shooting kick starts in Kumbakonam.
