Cheran’s Autograph was a great success with the classes and the masses alike. The screenplay and narration in the film was much talked about and earned the director many a plaudits. Pokkisham was the project which Cheran commenced after Autograph and a song was also shot with Meera Jasmine in the lead role. However the film was postponed due

to reasons unknown and the director went on to make Thavamai Thavamirundhu which again was accepted well by the audience.

Now Pokkisham has been dusted and kept ready for polishing but with a small change. This time around Cheran has brought in Padmapriya as heroine in place of Meera Jasmine. Grapevine in the industry reveals that Cheran is quite comfortable working with Padmapriya from Thavamai Thavamirundhu days and her subsequent performance in films like Mirugam and Sathum Podaadhay also helped the balance to tilt in her favor.

This action scene was filmed recently at the Ramoji Film city in Hyderabad. It took five days to film the scene, reports our sources. So, what’s new in it? Well, what is beyond belief is that, 30 truckload of water per day, that’s about 150 truckload in all, was pumped out at the actor. Some of you may remember Mu.Ka.Muthu, Karunanidhi’s first son, who some decades ago, aspired to the kind of stardom MGR had. His early films showed promise, but he was unable to sustain a career in acting. For a while, he sang and came back into the limelight briefly. For the last decade or so, there had been little news of him –until this

week. He has returned to playback singing in Pavithran’s new film, Mattuthavani. This morning Mu.Ka.Muthu recorded a song for the film at the studio. Also, quite recently he celebrated his sixtieth birthday. At the function he said he had missed many good chances in life, but from now on he was going to be very involved in cinema.

“Proud to succeed the Superstar,” says Surya

Monday, March 24th, 2008

kkj125.jpg

What would Surya’s film be after Varanam Aayiram? Well, he has signed the dotted lines to star in Ayan, to be produced by AVM Productions. The customary pooja was performed at the AVM office this morning (24-03-08) to launch the film. K.V. Anand will don the director’s cap while Tamanna will share screen space with Surya.

AVM Productions had called for press meet at 11:30 am and surprisingly both Surya and AVM Saravanan were present at the venue at 11:25 am. Veteran director S. P Muthuraman hosted the show. AVM Saravanan delivered the welcome address.

Addressing the media, Surya said that he is happy to star in the very next film by AVM Productions, after Sivaji’s astounding success. It is to be noted that Ayan would be Surya’s second film for AVM after the smash hit Perazhgan that won him acting accolades. This venture is a dream come true, he stated. Recalling his first photo session at director Manirathinam’s office with K.V. Anand,

Surya said that he was supposed to have acted in his film earlier but could not do so due to call sheet problems. The actor’s forthcoming venture Vaaranam Aayiram, directed by Gautham Menon, is expected to be wrapped up within a month. He said, “Gautham has extracted the maximum potential from me, perhaps Ayan would even surpass that.”
What started as an ad film sowed the seeds for Ayan, states K.V. Anand. Gossipmongers at that time had a field day spreading rumors that the duo intends to do a film together. “I discussed this story with Surya on the banks of a lake and he liked it. That’s how Ayan happened,” he said. Harris Jeyaraj has been roped in to set the tunes. It is well known that Harris does not like introducing songs that would hamper the flow of the story. But showing keen interest in this project, Harris has recommended all the song sequences.

Though K.V. Anand is a cameraman himself, M.S. Prabhu’s services has been sought to wield the camera. The crux of Ayan is about a 23-year-old and how he attains his goals in life. The director was happy that M.S. Prabhu and lyricist Vairamuthu instantly liked the story, which is an indication that everyone would enjoy it.

Vairamuthu came out with an explanation for the name Ayan, i.e., Naanmugan meaning four faces. He asked: “Would Surya don four roles?” Any answers to that?
